I have a 1995 k1500 Z71 with the 350 engine AT and 4wd shifter in the floor. The problem is 4wd works in lo range but not in hi range. The indicator light works in lo but not hi. When it is in hi the front shaft is engaged: at least it won't turn by hand. I have driven it with wheels turned but can't feel the front tires pulling the truck around. Thanks for any help.<><

On my '98 suburban, the PO installed the wires backwards at some point, so the lights on the floor shifter display were wonky. Check that out.

It also has a front-diff solinoid that locks the front axles in. Check the wiring and switches for that out. The TC is activated by mechanical linkage from the floor shifter. The TC may be engaged, but the front diff may not be.

I have a 95 and the actuator went south. Still had the shifter on the floor. I don't know about your light and stuff but as far as engaging the front end I used a deal called a posi lok. BAM problem solved. I think the 95 has a bulb filled with oil and a heating element. The heat expands the oil and moves the actuator which in turn engages the coupler for the splines on the long side axle shaft. Instead of electric junk this dea( posi-lok)l uses a cable that always works sometimes you just have to let the truck roll a bit while applying slight pressure to the t -handle that engages the front end. I like that I can have 2 low also.
Someday I'll probably just go with a solid axle if I keep the truck.Check it out the posi lok though.
