So we bought my 15 year old son a 2006 V8 4Runner for his first car. It is a good base vehicle and runs well. We are looking at welding up some sliders and likely going to add a bull bar/winch up front and call it done. I am in new water looking at lifting this thing. I am thinking 2" will give us the room we want. It currently has a new set of KO2's in the factory size and we have a set of 285-75-16's in the shed ready to go if we want to.

I don't want to break the bank, nor do we want a harsh ride... who is making suspension lifts that meet the sweet spot?

My usual suspects are OME and Bilstien but I am curious if I need to get new UCA's while we are in there or at 2" will we be able to keep the alignment in spec?

Got any suggestions for solutions in terms of what spring rates and or additions we should consider?

since you asked lol, here i go. what does he think? have him do the research and decide what he wants and what he can afford. he's at the age where you make a lot of stupid decisions but you sure do learn a lot from those decisions, with the internet he can learn from what others did and it didn't work or maybe it did. anyway, the shop is usually open along with welders and most anything else he'll need. currently have a truck that one of the boys got the invite to go on the new ultimate adventures trip on the lift. he's been chasing a noise all summer and rebuilt both tcases with no improvement. went to change all fluids the other day and popped the rear dif cover off and found the problem. one of the retainer bolts that holds the thru pins that hold the spider gears had broke and the pin worked out and did some great carnage to the pinion gear. after a couple frantic days of sourcing new parts he still couldn't find those retainer pins, late last night one of the local offroaders opened up his spare locker and gave him the new parts he needed. that's how it otta be. some youtube videos about the exact same thing happening and much worse outcomes. now if the new tires would show up lol. anyway drew let me know if you need anything, i'm sure the boys will be willing to give him some really stupid ideas and then explain why not to do them.

and 1 more thing, what the heck is a 40 driver worried about the ride. at 15 i would guess that he would rather be driving a 40, i've heard that they're kinda a chick magnet for kids

based on my limited experience with the FJC, which is a 4g runner basically but much better looking:

probs dont need UCAs at 2" lift.

You could probaly stuff those 285 pretty easy with that lift. might not even be necessary just cut to fit ;) the FJC did it stock 285s. i don't think you'll have to cut the body mount up until you go like 315s

dont mess with the diff drop stuff if it comes with your lift kit. i never ran one in all my years of FJC

wait until black friday to order anything, they always do crazy sales and free shipping

i ran toytec back in the day and it was a decent middle of the road option but felt like limited flex. but im also comparing it to my top of the line spare no expense king set up that i eventually replaced it with. i think they have come along way since then.

RCI makes the good skid plates when you decide to go that route. they pop up on CL all the time i think its pretty universal across GX/FJC/4R

to bad i gave all my old lift kit stuff in a pile of parts when i sold the FJC i probaly had everything you would have needed with the exception of like rear springs

adjustable coils are nice for dialing in the front with the extra weight of the bull bar when you get that, another thing to keep in mind.
