i have a 1996 4runner with 236k. its a 4 banger with 5 on the floor. i live in maine and im having an issue with the 4wheel drive this winter. i engage 4 hi to drive in snow and in 4th gear, while driving, she pops out of 4 wheel drive and i end up in the ditch. no noise comes from 4wheel drive at all,it seems to sound smooth easy shift in and out. this happens 2times and then it stays engaged...what to do??!!

It sounds like your shift springs. You can buy heavy duty shift springs from Trail Gear to replace them.

There are two allen head bolts on each side of the transfer case above your rear output flange. Unscrew those, slide the old springs out and the new ones in. Tighten up the bolts and you should be good to go.
