So I was thinking about engine swaps, I would love to go to a 3b but they are very costly. So has anyone ever put A 4runner drive train in a 60 series not the 22re, but the latter V6 mated to a 5 speed? seems like you could pick one up for a reasonable price and you could actually find parts. this is purely for info dont plan on doing this anytime soon

I like the v8 4Runners and the 4.3L V6's. I think either one would be a big improvement. I have no idea on technical details though.

That page is about a Tacoma engine. Are the Tacoma engines the same as the 4Runners? They might be since they are close in GVW.

You might be right that the 60's are heavy beasts, hence the "iron pig" nick name.

The 3rd generation 4Runner V-6 is the 3.4, which is one and the same engine as ya'll are talking about. Haven't heard of it done before, but I'd defer to the knowledgeable folks in the linked thread and abandon that idea. A better choice would be a newer Landcruiser inline 6 or V-8 if you want to keep it Toyota and gas.
Randy, I believe the Fj55 has exclusive rights to the "Iron Pig"moniker. I've read that they were also nicknamed "Moose" back in the day. In any case, the 60 series are heavier and the 80 heavier yet.
