usually hang out in the 100 and 80 forums. have a question about 3rd gen 4 runner I have looked at the mounting points of the front and rear shocks and wanted to know if 01 Tundra shocks would work on a 98 4runner. was going to swap the fronts complete including springs. rates might be a little stiff but not sure. Will it work? Any issues?

I would think the struts and top plate would be different/bigger on a Tundra over a 4Runner. Just the shock? Part numbers are different, but they might pass a fit test.

Yah they will work but depending on the colour codes, some are really stiff for the T4R. Check out this link:

:confused:You sure? Your link is to Tundra coils only. The OP is asking direct swap over front/rear.

OP
I have a set of ICON's CO up front, and there is a Tundra bolt pattern (slightly larger) and then the 4runner/Tacoma pattern (the 3 upper upper nuts) which is smaller. They are very close - but different.
A pair of tundra coilovers won't just bolt up to a 4runner.

Also, the rear shocks on the Tundra should be eye mounts on each end - where the 4runner has eye on one end, and just the shaft on the other.

So to answer your question - No.

You can use the Tundra shock/coil (will over-extend your 4runner system though) and just breakdown the strut and use the Tacoma/4runner top plate so the mounting holes line up.

You can also buy the eye to shaft conversion as well. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EXP-690001/

Buying these additional parts to make the Tundra parts work - does not make sense though. (IMO)
