A friend is looking at an otherwise clean, 1 owner 98 TLC 100. I went to his place to give it a once over for him and when I shifted to 4lo, it appeared to gear down, but no dash light for the center diff, also no light when using the center diff button. I tried engaging the e-locker while in 4lo and it would flash but not engage. The truck is super clean and well maintained, likely never been in 4lo. Is this an electrical issue that is easily correctable, or should I wave him off the truck? Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't pass it up because of that. It still works great if you don't care about those features, and if you do there's things to do to get it to work. For the elocker, 80 forum has a lot more discussion and basically all applies to our 100s.

My thoughts: Could be dash lights are out (normally if it was trying to engage it would blink repeatedly and never go solid). Could be that the sensors for the center and rear locker are bad (this would cause them to blink repeatedly on the dash). Could be that they just want to be stubborn because they're never used, and they need to be repeatedly exercised to get them to work after sitting in one position for so long (especially the rear).

When I bought my truck the rear wouldn't engage. After a lot of turning the dial and driving in circles in a dirt lot I felt it engage - but the light has never gone solid in 3 years. I know it's locked, and I need to replace the sensor to get it to go solid (just not a priority).

Hope this helps some.

Thanks. I'll pass that along.

Does the center locker light come on in 4HI?

I haven't used 4LO that much, but I don't remember the light ever coming on. Switching to 4LO would automatically turn it on, but not turn on the light like it would if I manually engaged the center locker in 4HI.
