All I’m installing a 1992 4BDT2 into my 1988 FJ62 using Longbow Don’s adapter method. Big thanks to Don and others for their help thus far. All is going well after setting on it for over a year. Adapters are done and engine is now bolted to Toyota A440F. Along the way I’ve installed a new head on engine, had fuel injectors serviced, replaced front and rear seals, wastegated turbo from a 1994 4BDT2 rebuilt and installed. I’ve removed the oil pan for modification along with the oil filter adapter.
Here is where I’m asking for input: The block has two holes behind where the original oil filter adaptor mounts. It appears to me that the rear hole (~17-18mm) is just a through hole and is actually blocked off by the gasket and adapter housing. If it is part of a bypass system I’m not seeing how it works as again it appears to be blocked off when original adapter is mounted to block. It appears the forward hole (~16mm) is feed oil by the pipe that is then connected to the oil pump within the block.
I need clarification on this as I intend to make remote oil filter blocks. In another thread I saw where their setup had three big lines going to the remote filter block plus a smaller line to feed oil to the injector pump/timing cover. I do not understand why there is a need for three big lines. I get having a big feed line from the front block hole to the remote filter block and another big line from top of remote filter housing to the block mounted oil cooler and the smaller line from side of filter housing to the injector pump/timing cover. Why two big lines from the original oil filter mount location to remote mount?
Also any links/photos of oil pan mods would be helpful as well.
Thanks,
Don Ferguson
