45 lv pin, shackle, bushing, question - I think I got it.

Hi guys,

I posted this in 40 tech, figured I might get an answer over there a little quicker, sorry about the double post.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=42856

If you read this post first check it out and post please if you have any answers for me, looking for an answer fairly quickly. I was hoping to get this stuff in the mail today yet or at the very latest tomorrow morning.

Thanks, Matt

I think I have it figured out now.

From SOR:

Front spring pins 102-03 PF-G Qty. 2
Rear spring pins 102-03 HH-G Qty. 2

Front hangar brkt bushing 289-45A-A Qty. 4 (1" OD x 9/16" ID x .195 flange)
Rear hangar brkt bushing 289-46A-A Qty. 4 (1 1/8" OD x 9/16" x .225 flange)
Rear Pin to spring bushing 289-46B-S Qty. 4 (1 3/8" OD x 11/16" x .265 fl.)
Frt & Rr spring to shackle 289-40-X Qty. 8 (1 3/8" OD x 15 mm x .125 fl.)
Front spring pin bushing 289-40-X Qty. 4 (same as above.)

I'm probably going to buy a set of 4 anti inversions shackles from another source with 9/16" pins. The shackles have a 3.25" width bushing for spacing, but the manufacture said that this could be machined down for correct spacing. Both the bushings on the front and rear hangar brackets are 2 3/4" wide, so this bushing in the shackle may have to be turned in my lathe for the correct spacing. I may also have to turn the face of some of the bushings to bring them all in line and equal. So that the shackle is equally spaced on the spring and hangar bracket.

1 major question that remains that I don't know yet (and maybe Chef will answer) is the width of the Parabolic springs at the eye? The width of the front and rear pin brackets on the frame are both 3" ID. So in a perfect world the width of spring should be 2 3/4" and I should have a bushing on each side with a .125 (1/8") flange = 3". I need to find that out?

According to previous emails from Paul at TIC all his parabolic springs have 35mm eyes (1 3/8")

The Qty. of 8 part # 289-40-X have a 15 mm eye. Technically my shackle pin is 9/16" which is 14.29 mm. I think the .71 mm should be minimal if not at all noticable for looseness?

If anyone sees something wrong, please post.

Thanks, Matt

Wow.. Ok now I understand what your trying to do.. I did all the math for the parabolics at one time.. I can't find my notes right now and don't have time to dig before moab.. The rear pins are same as Fj45 stuff and fj60 which I think is like 17mm?
Fronts are all FJ40 stuff and 15mm
You are correct on the OD and ID's of the springs. TIC was working on a new bushing to come with them I"m pretty sure. I know one of our club members left me a message our junk was in and needed to be shipped to KC

THE previous TIC's were 3" wide I believe.. Not sure if these are different now or not. Personally I'd wait till you have everything in front of you before ordering.. I scratched my head for a long time and got the front stuff ordered all at once. It worked out right with SOR bushings..
Sorry I'm of no more help right now but I'm really brain dead.. Getting the FJ40 ready is crazy right now and I"m leaving Friday.. Chef might log in but I know he's as busy as I am if not more.

I agree with you, I probably should wait, but I didn't :)

I got the shackles, pins and bushings ordered this morning, I should have all that stuff on Friday.

I may have all that stuff, but I might not have the springs :frown: I've been on the phone the last 3 days with Bill at GBR. The springs were supposed to show up Monday, still hoping today......If he gets them in today yet he figures he can get them out the same day. If they don't show up and go out today, I'm screwed for the weekend.

I asked Bill at GBR on the width of spring at the eye, he wasn't sure? He thought it might be 2 1/2", but couldn't say for sure, I don't think that's right. I have an email today off to Paul at TIC, but haven't heard back yet.

One thing that will slow me up another day is that I think the springs are Blue in color. That is not going to work at all. As soon as I get them I will have to spray them down with reducer and get all the blue paint off, prep and shoot primer and black single stage.

I have the rear pins, front pins/shackles/bushings
rear shackles and bushings are coming.
You can use a 60 series rear shackle, you'll have a little play side to side which is probably a good thing to help save the bushing sholders from wearing out/off due to flexing.
let me know if you can't find anything closer

I don't think Bill has them yet. I have been on the phone with him today and he hasn't seen them yet. He figured he could get mine off the pallet and shipped today to Minnesota, I'm still crossing my fingers.

I ordered a anti inversion shackle with a bushing that can be adjusted. I figured that way I was safe. I have a metal lathe so if the shackles are a bit wide (which I know they are right now) I can turn the bushing down and tighten them up.

The flanges on all the bushings I orderd are all pretty much different. I am 99% sure that I will be chucking some of those PU bushings up in the lathe and facing the flange to get them all the same. That's not to big of deal though.

Well it was a message.. Gotta call him back here shortly.
I used a 60 series rear shackle on my tic's. Needed to order FJ45 greasable fixed pin but never got around to it.. My FJ40 got in the way of the 45"s progress..

If you find something out, please let me know. I don't why Bill would tell me he didn't have them if he did? I'm hoping your msg is right. :)

I got an email back from Paul at TIC this morning. The springs are 70mm wide at the eye. Which converts to 2.76" inches, absolutely perfect. Same width as the hangar brackets, all the bushings will have to have the flanges machined to .125" if they don't have it already.

Tornadoalleycruiser, did you ever hear anything from GBR?

Matt
