Dates: Sept 15-16
Saturday morning: Meet at the intersection of Hwy 93 and Colorado 72 at 08:30, driving away by 09:00. link to location Google Maps
this allows us to caravan up the hill together at a nice 40-like pace, about an hour shake-down run to get to the trailhead. If you're coming from non-front range locations you can post up for alternative directions, or just meet us up there if know where you're going. Should be in Rollinsville around 9:45. CB4, 146.460 on 2m.
Saturday night: whoever wants to camp we'll find a cool spot. Either stay up by Jenny Lake, or go down the hill then up the Mammoth side.. lots of cool spots up there, we'll let the group decide, room for everyone..
Sunday am: anyone who wants to run Kingston meet at the big puddle that is no longer a puddle, top of Mammoth Gulch. this is either up the hill through Apex if coming from the south, or up the hill through Tolland if coming from the north. Lat: 39°51'32.83"N Lon: 105°37'37.63"W
Keep in mind this is a good 2 hours from most places in Denver and Kittredge. post up if you need directions. We'll then run Kingston Peak, head down Fall River, under I-70, then down hwy 6 to Golden, which should put us at the Rally by 11:00-11:30.
Bring: tons of water, extra clothes, and general stuff that makes 40's keep running. Bring a lunch for each day you want to be on the trail. If camping, bring more water, more clothes, more food, maybe some camping stuff. It will probably rain at least once, usually does.
we'll call Saturday the "official" run, Sunday the optional bonus run. And anyone with a 40 is welcome to attend one or both. If you don't have a 40 and want to come this is a great opportunity to find a ride in one- the Saturday run can easily return to town the same way if you need to leave a car down at the PnR where we met at 8:30. If we run fairly issue-free, you should be back in Rollinsville by 3:00, back to your car by 4.
Any 40 that is well maintained with good tires can do both of these trails. Please spend some time under the truck & hood to button things up and refresh some maintenance items; simple stuff like check battery cables, battery hold-down, oil, coolant level, etc.... cell coverage is spotty at best on both trails, we'll of course be connected with radios should an emergency arise.
