40 and 80 series owner need help pricing a FJ60

I have been planning to upgrade my 40 to a FJ60 as my family is now 4 people with two large dogs. I found a very clean FJ60 today in a small town near my home by luck. We had a FJ60 before but my wife upgraded to a 1997 FJ80. I still miss the truck.

Here are the specifics: 1984 FJ40 with 101k. Complete records to new. Local rig. VP/Executive was owner 1 and sold to one of his foreman on the factory line who is now selling as wife has a 1997 Cherokee. It is 100% rust free. All fluid changes and maintenance done religiously as per factory manual etc. Interior in 100% mint except for 2 inch tear in drivers seat. Paint is slightly faded but again totally rust free. I climbed everywhere to check for rust in the usual areas.
I am having it inspected tomorrow by a toyota dealer. I drove it today and it runs great, 4WD works perfectly and shifts well etc. The only thing I noticed is that the AC blows sort of warm. I am guessing recharge? but will know more tomorrow. He is asking $4500. I am thinking that is fair? What do you all think?

Rust free and low miles with a full maint record? Sounds like a fair deal to me. Make sure it has all the smog goodies. If you buy it post some photos. Troy in Tahoe

agrre w/ troy, sounds like a good deal, but you don't want to be a "laydown" so make him and offer lower than asking price - nobody expects to get asking price, normally

I think it sounds like a great deal as long as it checks out OK. I paid $5k for my rust-free '87 FJ60 and it is worth every penny, IMO. Good luck.

yeah it sounds OK to me. I paid 4-5 years ago 7k(market on 60's was pretty hot then) for my 87 bone stock with 92,000 on it, paint was good and interior was/is PERFECT, not even the normal driverseat tear, seats covered in plastic sense 86! not one speck of rust, dealer serviced. Now it has a whoping 104,000 on it

Sounds like a decent deal. All depends on what part of the country you're in: '60's that clean in the Pacific Northwest have been going for a lot more than that recently.

I bought my 2nd '60 a month ago - 1-owner, 127K mi '84, rear wheel well rust, minor rash on hood & lift gate: $3,500. I thought my '83 was clean, but the overall condition of this one is amazing! For instance, check out the rear bumper stiffener - if it's not rusted, go for it! What I've always maintained in buying a used vehicle is to show great enthusiasm & let the seller know that getting the money is not a problem (to appear different from the tire-kickers), & then just ask what he/she is realistically looking to get out of it. Now, if I were just as good at selling a vehicle. Want to buy a nice '83?

my 87 is much nicer considtion with more well thought out mods and goodies

but it does show that a clean low mile rust free stockish 60 can still bring good money. I expect I would get 13K+ for mine, with the goodies and work what has been done.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I just bought my 85 which is super clean outside, front seats replaced and need recovered, perfect dash and headliner, front and rear lockers and gears done, lift, new 33's, needs a motor. $3300 and I felt like I got a good deal even with the motor issue. I would be very comfortable dropping $4k on a clean low miles 60. Funny how you start thinkin 100k is low miles.

thanks again we are still going back and forth over money right now. We are a few hundred dollars off of middle ground. I wonder about those ebay deals....very easy to fake a deal and drive the price up I think....?
