Hi all!

I want Change the axle gear ratios from current 4.11 to 4.88. I am running 285/75/16 MT's and like to come close to stock overall gear ratio again. So my question: are there 4.88 Ring/Pinion kits for the J9 available? I found Kits for 4Runner, J200, Tundra, Hilux, but not for the J9 or Prado how it's called often.

Would be great if someone could name me sources where to buy, or links to webshops etc.

Thanks
Thomas

hi,from greece
i have 5vz-fe and i change the ratio from 4.3 to 4.88.. (235/85/16 malatesta cayman)

one friend have diesel edition and change from 4.11 to 4.56 ..(he use BFG KM2 255/85/16)its much closer to the original set up

you can check http://www.nitro-gear.com/

tyres
31"+7% = 33,17 change is 7% from 31" to 33"

R/P
4,30 +13% = 4,859 -> 13% change with the new pitch 4.88

13% - 7% = 6% additional torque
6% additional horse power
6% reduction of the final speed

your speedometer will shows 100 klm but you will have real 94 klm
if you have 4th gear and 2500 rpm and "Χ" klm - and now you have "Χ" with 2650 rpm

Assuming 31" tires are the original equipment then 4.56 will keep you closer to stock as mentioned above. 4.88's would correct for 37's. But to answer your question in certainty we need to know the original tire size. Chart below should help and Nitro Gear is where I shop too.

Hi!
To warm up the thread again since it has become actual again. Embarassingly I forgot about that thread I've started and just found it again through the Google search. :bang:
Thanks for your replies gents, especially to justdifferentials for listing up the parts I'd need for the change. I'd certainly not be able to choose all and the right things on my own!

Stock gear Ratio is 4.11 and tires are 265/70/16. So just a Little taller than 31's. As mentioned before I run 285/75/16. Generally speaking I want come Close to stock Ratio or even shorter to compensate the disadvantage of larger tire Diameter, more weight and the increased aerodynamic drag due to Roof rack etc. That's why I want to go 4.88 Ratio.

I will check out the links (justdifferentials) and will contact you by E-Mail soon. Cheers for that
