I have 4" OME w/sr lift and I'm going to regear to 4.88's because I plan on putting on 35's tires. My question is, if I decided to ever go down a tire size to 33's, how bad is it going to be with the new gears (4.88's)?

Its gonna suck a little. I am running 4.56s with 33s and its about right, a bit low but not too bad. I bet you will loose some highway speed for sure and some MPG.

It's great for everything EXCEPT the freeway. 3200+rpm for 65mph. But the grunt feels great around town, and 1st gear/lo-range is pretty damn low.

I have 4.88's on my 1988 w/33x10.50's, just about right, but freeway max speed is ~70mph or it whines at me...

is this an fj60, or a 62? i don't think it will be as bad with a 62 as a 60. for reference, i ran 4.56s with 33s and 65mph put me at about 3200r's iirc.

2x 60 or 62 ??? I have 456's and 33 in my 82 60 and it great off road but she only likes 55-60 on the hwy @ 3k rpm... I couldnt deal with 488's with out the 35-36 in tires ... I think my 456's would be great for hwy and mild wheelers with 35's. 62's come with 4.10s so 488's would be better for them. I'm sappin out my 456's with 4.10 to get it better on the hwy and tossin the 456's in the wheeler

Mine is a 62...fwiw

Hey, I have 4.88's with 36's and it's good.
Around town i run 33's just so i don't wear out exxy tyres. It's sucks bad on the highway. 100km/h or a touch over 60mp/h is enough for the ears.. and fuel economy.
I would definitely advise against 4.88's and 33's for highway use. If it was a crawler getting trailered it'd be good. But not a daily driver.
Cheers
