As my kids get older and we still regularly have their friends with us it would be ideal to increase the leg room of the 3rd row if possible. In looking at the way the seats fold and slide it would nice if it could latch at the full slide towards the back. My fear of changing this is that the seat belt latch points are the same as the latch for the seat. I would be interested if anyone else has put some time and thought into this.

I'll throw in my $.02, I personally don't think it would be a good idea/very difficult to do. The seat has to be slid all the way forward to latch onto the floor, meaning you would have to move/modify the latch points, sacrificing possible safety features of the seats themselves. Also like you mention the rear belts are non adjustable meaning you would have to modify them somehow. I wouldn't really feel good putting my kids (I don't have any lol) in a modified seat like that. I'm sure it can be done, but not without extensive modification to either the seat/floor or both.

I wouldn't mess with modifying safety equipment, just my opinion. If something unfortunate happened, safety potentially could be compromised and always chance of liability.

The seat mounts are recessed into the floor. So if the mounts were moved back, you'd have to cut a hole in the floor, then figure out how to secure the mounts.

My thoughts exactly on the safety, guess we will continue to rent a mini van for longer excursions from home when we have extra passengers.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. I don't think you'd be able to move the seat rearward to the position they back up to when stored upright even if you figured out how to change up the mounts - the seatback and headrest would be in the hatch glass and possibly not "click" into the first position. As-is the headrest will somewhat touch the glass if you recline the seat.

I usually have an adult in the 3rd row, they know to just not complain or drive their own vehicle if they don't like it. If it were kids and their friends, I likely wouldn't even be concerned.

my brother in law is 5'9" sat in the third row. from la to az and az and back no complaints. yeah im the best brother in law. lol.

but seriously no complaints from him.
