I'm wondering if anyone out there has a break down or some info on what starter contacts where used on '96 4Runners. I was told by the parts guy at the dealership that there where multiple kinds of contacts I could buy depending on the starter. Where there multiple starters used on the '96 4Runners? Is there a way to tell what contacts I should get without pulling the starter out? I would rather just get the contacts and pull the starter once to get it fixed up.

The VIN # should tell you which starter you have in the truck.

Check out Roger Brown's (aka 4Crawler) website, he even sells them:

His site mentions "Most of the Toyota V6 starters (3.0L, 3.4L) use an A-style motor side and a B-style battery side contact." He sells all four types really cheap.

Be prepared for an in frame rebuild. I couldn't get the starter out of my wifes 96 with a 4 banger and my neighbor couldn't get it out of his V6 model either.
