3rd gen 4Runner rear differential questions.

Alright, now I have a 2000 Toyota 4Runner with an open differential in the rear. I have found a 1999 4Runner locally that has been in a front end collision and has been written off and being parted out. I'm wondering if I am able to remove the third member from the 1999 4Runner with the LSD and directly swap it with my third member? I did quite a bit of searching but unfortunately cannot find any useful information on the 3rd gen rear ends. Are the axles the same size, and do they have the same spline count?

If it is needed I could possibly get the V.I.N.'s of each vehicle if that is going to make a difference.

As long as you're not talking about the TRD e-locker rear end, it will fit.

Did they put a LSD in factory???? I didn't think that they did.

Is it a TRD aftermarket LSD?

If your 4Runner is 4wd, then you need to also make sure they are the same gear ratios.

There are factory LSDs for 4runners (and others that run the same size diff), just not too common (if at all) in the US. Canada is perhaps another story.

And like was said above, if you're talking about the e-locker, the diffs will not just swap without a good amount of diff housing modification. The easiest way to swap in the e-locker would be to swap entire axle assemblies.

Thats what I did...I took my wife's (at the time girl friend) whole axle out of her '96 and put it in my '97 because she had the locker.

But before that I had planned on buying a carrier setup from toyota and doing the slight mods to fit it in the housing...

From the above link, they are both 30 count.

If it is a 4runner housing it will, taco housing will not accept a 8" 4/6 cylinder 3rd member.

You must have a locked up older third you're going to throw in it?

yeah thats what im doing hey one more ?????????. you trhink i could fit 35's on a 97 runner with a 7.2 kit fron sonoran offroad plus a 1" spacer i think thats what the guy has on it.

correction on that its a sonoran steel kit and it was a 7.2 but it was upgraded to the system 1. thanks for you help.

That I'm not sure of....someone else might have the answer or you could probably call Sonoran and see what they say.
