Well its that time of year again and we will be once again having the 3rd annual Christmas tree run out in the Caroline/Sundre area. This run is about the different clubs getting together for a day of wheeling and Christmas tree gathering.

There is a lot of snow out west already so it should be a pretty interesting day. Make sure your vehicles are in good mechanical condition and you have decent tires. No minimum tire size required. Bring at least one good row strap and have recovery points on front and rear. As always body damage is possible although isn't a really hard run.

Itinerary

- meet at GTI gas station in Caroline at 10 am December 7th, group will hit the road at 1030 for the trail.
- wheel until a nice lunch spot is found have a fire and cook up some food.
- whenever you spot a nice tree just stop and grab it. There are some pretty nice trees in the area (make sure you get your Christmas tree permit) http://srd.alberta.ca/FormsOnlineServices/TreeCuttingPermits/ChristmasTreeCutting.aspx

Would love to make it out. My company xmas party is that evening. Probably should go, might go wheeling.

What time is your party? Shouldnt be a late run. We have a good group going so should be a nice run.

Well it was a fun day regardless of the cold weather conditions. The day started off early with me getting my tow rig fired up for the drive out. (Not towing anything but its the only vehicle I have with 4x4 ha ha) Jeremy's Hilux was not pleased with -40 and required a boost. However once running and warmed up was good to go for the trip. David in his FJ was meeting us from Calgary. And due to weather conditions everyone else decided to stay home.

But where is the sense of adventure in that. With our best winter gear on we headed for the West Country. Thanks to the help of a boost and a heater I got my old quad fired up. David was pretty keen on watching me freeze on the quad. However I was quite warm. The quad however did not enjoy the deep snow at all. And I wasn't expecting much. I ended up hopping in with Jeremy since the snow was just too deep.

Even fully locked the 35's were having a tough time in the snow. Most snow I've seen out there but it was still a lot of fun. We didn't make the whole trail but we still had a great trip.

Jeremy ended up on a serious side pull with the winch that frayed and broke his cable. Him and I got the longer half back on the winch while David was going at a very slow but steady self recovery with his hydraulic winch. We did get one nice Christmas tree though.

Cheers, and Merry Christmas everyone.:santa:

Yeah it was fun. Missing having a wheeling rig for sure.
