I posted this in the 80 forum but I thought you guys might be able to give me some more specific info. The Phoenix to Flag climb is killing me. Its a trip I make often with the 80. Im tired of getting past by pedestrains in an out of Camp Verde and up to Flag.

After another Phoenix to Flag trip crawling at 45 mph :crybaby: I'm done. If I go from a 33x12.5 to a 285/70/16 and a regear to 4.56 (3FE) how much of a difference could I expect? On hills that I now do 45, how much more power would I have? Would I be able to do 55, 65 or 75 on the same grades on now do 45. Or would my results be minimal?

That's how a 5000lb brick with 150hp goes uphill. Ether relax and enjoy it for what it is, or buy something that weighs less and/or has more horsepower.

So regearing wont do anything to help?

I didn't say that. The 3FE makes max power at ~4000rpm, so will climb the fastest at about that rpm. What is your speed at 4000rpm in 3rd gear, 2nd? Lower gears can help, but can be somewhat simulated by shifting the trans, driving in the max horsepower range. Gears can be helpful in tuning for best power range to speed, but when it comes down to the bottom line, 150hp will only drag a 5000lb brick up a 10% grade so fast. In other words don't expect a huge difference from gears alone.

Thanks nice to know before I drop twelve hundred.
