Ok, first post ever! Just bought a bj70 3.4ltr 3b, it's turbo'd with a ct26. Don't know what the ct26 came off, Toyota used them in so many applications so maybe someone can tell me how to tell them apart..it seems fairly weak, I can barely hear it spool or feel a difference. Since the 3b only revs to 3500rpm just wondering if anyone is using a different turbo/setup that turbo spools quicker about 1000-1500 mark? I was thinking of a t25g, I need to put a boost gauge on to see when exactly its boosting and how much boost it's running. I tried to do my research but nothing much on a responsive setup option.

Any help is great!

Good starting points would be to check the numbers case into the exhaust housing, see this thread with a comparison of exhaust housing size.

I would also fit a EGT and boost gauge and then check all the basics, exhaust and intake are clear? Timing is good and is the motor tuned for the turbo?

I have a modified CT26 from member gbentink on my 13BT (also a 3.4L) and can get 20psi by 2000rpm.

Also your motor should be able to pull past 3500rpm, I can hold mine to 4100rpm.

The smaller gt2052 seems Popular?? Is it the same off the 3ltr patrols?
 
WELCOME See what we all do with our CT26's (mines also modified :) a little) before going to something else.

You need to go down to a CT12B or something to get boost at that low rev rangebut you will loose the top end unless you do the compound turbo setup hahaha and I wanna do that path soon.

Would be nice if we also KNEW whihc part of the 3rd planet from the sun you are from.

Weak :( crikey my CT26 is weak and hults'y is weak as Steve Irwain used to say CRIKEY!. I suggest that you check if the fuel is wound back and there is a aneroid fitted to detect boost and a piston pressure test and has hultsy suggest fit gauges so you can see if the turbo is producing any BOOST..

Try to Find à turbo from à 1kz. 3.0 td. (kzj70) . Runs verry good on à 3b!
 
Im running a godspeed "ebay turbo" T3 .48 Ex .42 compressor. External wastegate. Builds boost very quickly(1600rpm-and up) and wont stop until about 25psi with the waste gate blocked. this is with close to stock fuel as well. Good turbo so far. 12000kms and no oil in the intake and zero play in the shaft. 280$ shipped They call it a "T3 turbo" you can get them with or without a wastegate attached.

Fail to see how how this can work well without an aneroid and the fuel turned up and the injector pump rail lift chanegd. Then it really would fly.

How much black smoke you getting at full boost?
 
No smoke at all beside initial go off a light, and only a small puff. I dont run 25psi, but the turbo is more than capable of it. I run about 14 with a ball check MBC. Fuel is turned up about a turn and egts top out at 1000F.
