I've got a 83 BJ42 LX with 794 719 ks. Can anyone tell me why oil would be coming from this mounting bolt hole for the pwr steering?

Cheers

can you zoom out a bit? looks like it attached to your cylinder head..
Mind you if your bracket blocks the hole when bolted in, should be filled up and ok anyway. shouldn't it?. but strange.

Yeah seems strange. The bolt was in tight, but maybe not to torque specs. I'll take the rocker cover off today and have a look. Maybe might tell me a bit more

Odd.. it does appear to be leaking oil. The feed to the valve train passes up through the head at the front.. you can see the feed hole in the image below. Seems further back than the P/S mount bolt hole though. A bit of compressed air might give some insight into whether this hole has been made deeper than it should be.. you could also start the engine up with the power steering off and see if you get oil coming out, without the bolt you'd expect copious amounts if it had penetrated an oil passage.

might be cracked

A bit of an update on the oil leak. So I've put in 1k and seems to be no oil leaking 🤔 but has developed a very high idle once warmed up. So I'm going to pull the head have a really good look around while replacing the head gasket as well as the diaphragm in the injector pump. Hopefully that'll solve it? I'll take some photos of the whole process, which may be helpful to others. I've got plenty of time so no rush jobs😆

Unable to add a video. This pic is taken at deceleration. Would the faulty diaphragm cause this smoking??

Since then, I've taken off the governor housing the diaphragm just fell out. There was no washer or split pin to hold the diaphragm in place. I have searched & searched but cannot find anything inside the housing. The tamper wire had been disconnected, so someone's had a crack at it before.

Cheers Johnno

fwiw interesting to see what happens when not held in place and that it does actually run to some degree. so thank you for sharing

😦

New diaphragm, washer and new split pin installed. It took some doing regarding holding the washer on while trying to insert the pin. Anyway, all's good and the Idle is back to normal.

Also, I made a long-handled magnet which I attached the washer too, to hold in place while I inserted the split pin. Then used a 90deg angled pick to split the pin.

Cheers
