Hi all,

Does anyone know how to dial back the pressure on a 3B pump? Also, does anyone have any pics of what the factory wire/lead seals would have looked like when not cut? Long story short, our truck passed emissions, but the state board inspection people noticed the seals had been cut & won't allow it to be renewed without having them back in place. They also suggested that, although it passed, it would get better economy & have less soot if we had it tuned back a bit. I guess people cut the seals to boost the fuel & gain a little performance (and roll coal)? Happy to tune it back for better economy & environment, but don't want to spend a fortune having a pro do it, and they won't look at it until the seals are in place again. Thanks in advance!

Rotary pump or inline pump? Its been done to death, try the search function.

inline. We've been searching, but so far only found questions about leaking pumps & such. But we'll keep looking, thanks!

3B Fuel Adjustment
Im surprised they are asking for the lead wire to be in place unless the seals have a code to determine who placed them there. Because you can just go online and buy them . I think you need the $15 clamp tool to close them as well.

Thanks! We've been searching under injection pump titles, so didn't have a good word combo working for us. We greatly appreciate the help!

On the seals, yeah it is even worse than you might think. They admit that a visual inspection isn't required on an 83, and that anyone could put them there, but they want us to spend roughly 1k USD to have a company do it, just so they are there, even though the truck passes emissions standards already. That's why we were hoping to dial back the fuel ourselves & figure out how the wires are routed from the factory, so that we can just do it ourselves & move on with other stuff. The only emission rule for that year of a diesel here is 30% opacity. so it isn't a super tough test really. We ordered 30 of the lead seals & now we're just trying to figure out if they are routed any special way. We also dialed back the fuel about 3/4's of a turn too, thanks to your help!

Who knows what the original seals look like. But they are twisted tight usually so the screws can not be turned. Just look closely at the screws on the pump. The important ones have holes in them where the wire can threaded through, I think there will be 3. Then they are just tied off to what ever is fixed close by. If you want to make it look rebuilt, give it a good wash with brake cleaner in a spray can (acetone) then put dots of coloured paint on the nuts bolts that hold the pump together. This would tell them the mechanic who rebuilt the pump torqued all the nuts and bolts to spec. Pray they dont ask for certificates or some kind of proof it was done at a shop.

This will give you some idea how they tie them off
