i have a pre November 84 3B with turbo glide.

I have a injection pump w/EDIC part #22100-58021

I need a new pump, will the post Nov 84 part#22100-58022 work in its place?

Any concerns to think of in the changeout?

50822 is probably just an upgraded pump with a part number that close. They were using this pump in 1980 on BJ60 and IN 1982 on Canadian BJ60 according to parts diagrams.
The pumps on most Toyota diesels have been mostly compatable with other engines in their family. Its only when you try and use an IDI pump on DI engine that it needs adjustments made.
Whats wrong with your old pump, cant it be rebuilt?

Struggling to source rebuild parts and rebuild for as cheap as a rebuilt pump with core return here in US. Not as much availability as WA I’m sure.

So the one you want to buy is rebuilt? .
It was used on a vast range of models , like the BJ7* and Coaster buses from all over the world as well as BJ60
Also when cross referencing the part number, if I put in 22100-58022 , it gives me a Coaster BB20L-MDZ from 82-86 using
22100-58021 (and others)
If I was in your position, I would get the #22100-58022

Yeah, we use 3B pumps for throwing at emus etc.

Here in Canada they arnt THAT common but there are a few around. I took one into a diesel shop a while back. I was thinking I would have to hold their hand looking for parts like gaskets and the diaphragm. But they told me they had no trouble getting parts for it. They told me it’s a generic company nippondenso that makes the pumps for Toyota. Apparently they arnt as stingy with parts as Toyota is.

I wish that was my experience, but just the fact that it is a Denso IP doesn't mean it is going to be any easier to get it rebuilt or finding parts.

My Denso pump for my 1PZ failed and I was given several reasons why it failed so I am not 100% sure what caused it to fail. I was given reasons from "home brewed" biodiesel to the ACSD...

Took it in to this well known local diesel shop that rebuilds Bosch, Denso, and other brands. Others have given me good reviews for the place so I have no doubt they do good work. They ended up telling me my IP was toast and the needed parts were too difficult to get. They put it back together for me and basically said "good luck".

Ended up sending my IP to Japan for a core swap with a rebuilt unit. It was not cheap but I got back a rebuilt pump that is working fantastic now.

Are you sure it needs a rebuild or replacement. I think in the fsm for the 3b is says “the injection pump is almost never the problem”

My cousin ran his bj42 on free jet fuel for 800 000k got it rebuilt and calibrated and it made no difference ran great as always.

What’s the issue with your 3b that makes you think it need a rebuild?

Did they tell you which parts? I can imagine with many parts unique to a 5 cyl , this would be true.

And how many klms has it done?

I had a diagram with the bad parts circled but I don't remember all of them now. I do know the IP housing was one of the parts considered bad.

Yes, the timer piston flogs the housing out. And usually the plunger and injector head all go about the same time.
