I tried the search and could not find anyone that has put a land rover 300 tdi diesel or the 2.8 liter into a cruiser. Is there a reason for this. From what I have seen that diesel gets pretty good mileage, and is plenty strong.

Isn't it true that the 300tdi gets better mileage than any of the toyota diesels in similar applications? From what I've read that seems to be the case. I think it may be a pretty substantial difference too, that alone could lead someone to a rover diesel like the 300tdi.

people seem to be reporting over 30 mpg with the 300tdi. that is why I was wondering. I was also curious as to the longevity of the engine.

It'll give good mileage if its driven gently. With aggressive driving especially off-road, it would grenade with all the engine seals giving way.

I live on the island of North Borneo, Rovers here convert to Land Cruiser diesels for robustness and FUEL ECONOMY as our "roads" are not exactly smooth like those in 1st world nations.

I previously own 2 Defender pick-ups with the 300Tdi engine and few Land Cruisers (14B-T & 1HD powered). Land Cruiser diesels win outright in terms of reliability, robustness and all-round dependability.
