I might have the chance to acquire a used Warn winch. All I know is it's coming off an F-350. Price should be less than $250. Seller won't or can't tell me what model it is.
This will be for my FZJ80.
What do I need to be thinking about with this?

Why are you asking? You need to go buy it before someone else does. Where is it located? I'll give him 300 for it and I don't care what model it is.

I'm just messin with you. But seriously go buy it. It looks like the 9000lb model.

That's what I was thinking. It seems too good to be true. I've never even played with a winch before so I just wanted to know if I should be wary of anything in particular.
Also, how do I test functionality with it pulled off his vehicle already?
Seriously. I'm very new to this.

Hook it up to a battery and use thw remove to pull the winch line back in after you've pulled it out.

Any reason not to use the battery out of my truck? Or should I bring a charged up free standing battery? I don't have a dual battery system yet.

It depends on how easy it is for you to do on if you use your trucks battery or a free standing one

Ok, 8000 pound warn for $325 or 12000 warn for $500 - FZJ80
I could get the kitchen pass for the 8000i a little easier but...

Or 3yo 8000 pound warn with unkown history vs. New HF Badlands 12000 (parking lot sale price $299)

Get the warn over the Badlands. If nothing else...you'll be able to service it some years from now.

12K vs 8K...I dunno. 1.5X the vehicle weight? (I don't have an 80, and don't know how yours is loaded.) Both seem like good prices, assuming the winches are in reasonably good shape.
