Removing my trans and t-case to change my rear main seal on my 72 fj40 having a little trouble with removing the shifter any suggestions on what to use to remove it and anything else I may need to remove to pull it out. In a little time crisis so your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..

If it's the floor shift remove the boots. Take 2 screw drivers where the shifter goes in push down and turn clockwise ( I believe ) lift the shifter out. There is a special tool made to do this but I have never seen one. It's one of those things I can do but have a hell of a time describing.

It's counterclockwise.
You can use the two screwdrivers(as suggested above), or a big cresent wrench, or channel locks or anything really, to just push down, and rotate the dome at the base of the shifter. You don't have a have a grip on it or anything, you just push down and rotate it. One some rigs, I've been able to do it with my fingers, others have been a real bear.
