So I started cleaning out my 3pd slip yokes to put on my 4 spd drive shafts as part of the 4 spd install with 3 spd TC.

The rear drive shaft slip yoke tube is open on the front, toward the spider joint, u joint. The front drive shaft yoke tube is as expected with backing on it to prevent grease from coming out all over the spider joint.

Is an open tube okay?

Is there a repair, or does the yoke need to be replaced?

It’s a welsh plug. Sometimes the shaft gets too compressed too rapidly and pops the plug. You can buy replacement plugs. They install just like engine freeze plugs.

Mark,
Thank you for the info. You are an encyclopedia of TLC knowledge. I will see if I can find the right size and plug it up.
