Curious... If I had an '05 2WD Tacoma... could I take parts off of junked a 4WD Tacoma to make mine 4WD? The answer I'm guessing would be yes.. but just how difficult would this be? Anyone done something similar before?

Interex on the TTORA forum converted his pre-runner to 4x4. It was a pre 05 Tacoma.

If you are going through the trouble of converting a 2x2 to a 4x4 why not put a solid front axle under it?

I don't know much about the 05+ Tacos, but like Matt (Cedarbarn) said, it's pretty much a bolt-on procedure for the 04 and older 2wd Prerunners (not to be confused with the 2wd mini, non-prerunner Taco). The hardest part (besides finding all the parts at a good price) is swapping transmissions since the 2wd Prerunner trans won't work in front of the stock t-case (might be able to make something work with a divorced t-case, though).
Yes they do have PreRunner 05+ trucks.
As long as the OP is referring to trying to convert a PreRunner to 4x4, then yeah, it's pretty much a bolt-on deal. If you're talking about trying to convert an actual 2wd "mini" to 4x4, then you're talking some MAJOR fabrication.
Oops I need to start double checking things I guess... I could have swore they discontinued the PreRunner with the redesign. Just looked it up and yes they do in fact still make it.
