Hey guys,

I have an '08 GX and for the last few months, I've noticed in higher rpms it would hesitate/break up a bit, and I have been waiting on a misfire code, however I'm thinking it may be my fuel pump on its way out... I got in to go to work this morning and started it letting it warm up, and then idle dropped like it was going to shut off, unless I gave it throttle, it stayed running, got out on to the road, and it was like it hit a wall at 3-3500 RPMs, but then it cleared up... I am not getting any CEL, other then p0456, and I've replaced the cap already so need to smoke test it I reckon tonight. I'm hoping you guys may be able to offer some insight, as i of course have family coming into town on Wednesday, and need to get it fixed. thanks in advance!! I'm leaning towards a fuel pump, OR maybe clogged cat/s due to the fact it clears itself up??? one other thing, I have noticed is, that if i drive someplace, and then park for an hour or two I experience a hard start scenario.. I am stumped.

I’m no expert on this, but a common problem on VVTI engines like yours is the secondary air intake

my SAIS is bypassed. I of course go to lunch no problem at the time. the only other weird thing thats happened was a couple of weeks ago I was getting an extremely strong raw fuel smell in the cabin.

Sounds like a classic fuel pump going out scenario.
I don’t know of first gen GX fuel pump failures.
How many miles on your GX?

Sorry for the triple reply…

However it’s not totally uncommon for the failure. I’m thinking I’m gonna just replace it, so that I knows it done. If it fixes it amazing, if not I guess back to the board.
 
If you gonna throw parts at it…replace both the fuel pump and sending unit.

I was recently having issues with the sending unit reporting empty tank when I still had 1/2 tank left

They sell the fuel pump assembly with the sending unit as a kit

I don’t think it’s the fuel pump, but I know how to throw parts while in there
 
With issues like this I can’t help but to think if the vehicle was ran close to empty often during its life. Similarly, when I see people adding fuel after the pump has auto stopped…there goes the vapor
canister.
