Hi Guys,

The Lexus dealer just installed the second front differential on my 99lx470. We can't figure out why the last one broke, let alone the original. The truck only has 48K on it. Lexus totally took care of me both times, including the last $850 towing bill!

They decided to put the newer front differential in the truck because they said it's built stronger than the 98 and 99 models.

Hopefully this will fix the problem. The truck goes offroad, but nothing that my old 85 silverado couldn't handle.

I should have kept my old 94 Landcruiser with lockers. Didn't have rear AC for the kids and dogs.

Wow-It's a good thing Shotts isn't bringing the 100 to Moab! :D

Seriously-what part breaks? Is it the carrier inside, the gears, or the aluminum case?

I have seen a couple go through the shop with broken fronts, mostly after the big snow storm of '03. But nothin to what you describing, hopefully that does it.

The original front diff had a broken gear, It was the small one that rides on the large one. The second one was the ring and pinion. Lexus thinks it was just a fluke off the assembly line. Third one is a 2004 part, which is stronger. I plan on putting a ARB locker in the rear when the warranty is out. I have the ARB bumper and 12K winch.

Sleeoffroad recommends a stronger front torsion bar because of the additional weight on the front end. I should do this so the hydrolics don't wear out prematurely.
