I want to mount (permanent) a 2m antenna to the roof of the 80 and need some suggestions. Currently have the Diamond trunk type and don't care for it.

I use a Larsen 150 NMO HW, that antenna works well with or without a ground plane. It is also tough as hell.
The Comet C13NMO is a nice mount because you only need to drill a small hole, 3/8" I think.

Glad you brought up the Dual Band...I would like to go that route and would want to be able to use the truck as a repeater (In theory). Radio suggestions?

Technically it isn't legal to use that radio as a repeater since you can't set it up to auto identify. But I don't know of any X-Band mobile that will. I'm guessing you want to use an HT to hit repeater via the truck radio? As long as you pay attention to the HT side frequencies you use and don't step on any toes* it shouldn't be a problem. *Avoid using frequencies designated for repeater operation.
You will also need a dual band antenna, I'd look at Larsen. No first hand experience with their dual band antennas but based on the 150 NMO HW I'd say they are a good bet. Fearless Leader has a nice one but I don't remember the brand, you might shoot him a PM.
