Hi everyone!

I've been reading this forum for a while now, but this is my first post. I'm form Portugal and have recently bought a BJ73 which has a transplanted Toyota engine (originally it had a VM 2.5 Turbodiesel engine)

After a lot of research, I came to the conclusion I just can't figure out what engine I actually have..

I took a few photos to try and aid the more knowledgeable minds help me figure this out.

Ok, so, lets start from the obviously stated on the photos, the 2L-TE Engine badge. I would just assume its a normal 2L-TE if I hadn't read multiple times the 2L-TE derives from the 2LT2, and that both have the valve cover with multiple screws all around.
Instead, my engine seems to have the 3 center screws usually associated with the original 2LT. Was there an earlier version of the 2L-TE with this valve cover??

Then we go to the fuel pump, which should be electronic on the 2L-TE, but from what I've seen online and on the repair manuals, this seems to be a manual pump. I couldn't take much better pics of it, but if anyone can confirm this it would be great!!

Here go the engine photos:

Then, there are this two things where I can't understand whats happening as there are disconnected tubes.

This one (maybe its the EGR removal??):

And this thing, that is bolted to the side of the engine bay:

Thank you very much in advance!!

Is there anything molded into the side of the block, its usually about mid way between the head and sump in 50 mm letters?

Hello,

Maybe the PO removed parts of the EGR system, either out of head concerns or just to get a bit more power?

Juan

The thing bolted to the side of the engine bay is an aftermarket Delphi type fuel fuel filter although there are a few companies that use the same design. Which begs the question on what it is using now for filtration?
Its a good design although it doesnt have a primer pump on it.

Judging by the inlet/outlet pipes on the inlet manifold, I would say it was a 2L TE with the troublesome fuel pump removed. Im guessing the coolant flowed in/out of those pipes to sensors to help with the adjustment on the fuel pump, but as I said ,its a guess
The electronic gadget on the pump is difficult to work with. I forget the specific reason ,but getting instructions in english was one problem with it.

Looks like a 2lte setup from the Hiace we have here.
Looks like you have the IP either from a 2L or 2L-T.
Let's see more pictures of the whole engine bay, and the filter assembly.
Here we had the cold specs filter bracket with heater element.

Ok, I'll try to snap a few more pics of the engine bay and filter assembly as soon as possible.

Still wondering about the other disconnected part, maybe it's what roscoFj73 said, I'll try to confirm on the repair manuals.

Thanks guys
