I have an early 2L diesel. I've noticed that the truck only accelerates under 75% throttle, anything more and it just smokes black and raises the EGT. Now this truck is very sluggish, it takes me a good 45 seconds to get up to 80km/h, and thats pushing it. I'm running 4.56 gearing on 235/70/r16 tires so this truck should just fly, but it doesn't.

Sounds like you're running rich at high throttle because there isn't enough air.

2L will always be slow, but getting more air by improving intake/exhaust will help. Maybe look at high flow air filters (even OEM from bigger motors), and go for a 2.25" or 2.5" exhaust.

Ultimately, turbo will probably get you where you want though.

Oh that does make sense. I assume fiddling with the fuel screw wouldn’t help then if it’s an air issue. Funny you mention turbo. I have a turbo manifold coming in the mail as we speak. I’m planning on putting either a ct9, a ct20, or a TD04 out of a WRX on it, whatever I find first.

Right now I’m running a 2” exhaust

Turning fuel down a bit will make the motor happier. But you can just do this with a pyrometer and your right foot too. No point in injecting more fuel than it can efficiently burn.

Glad to hear of turbo plans. Remember, boost doesn't hurt the motor, but high egts and water temps do. More air = lower egts, but also more efficiency and power.

Oh good to know. I’ve been a little on edge about turboing it as the turbo motors are the ones with all the head cracking issues. I’m not trying to make it fast, just want to to breath a little better so I can comfortably cruise at city speeds and also climb the 1500m up the mountains for camping.
