I’m looking to see if there is anyone out there familiar with the 2H vacuum pump setup up. Particularly in an 83 HJ60 Sahara. I have not come across anything that shows the system in detail, only diagrams of the pump. I am interested in the system because it seems I am having issues with it at the moment.
On a recent drive, I pulled over to check under the hood as I felt the power steering had failed to find that the power steering belt had let go. While investigating I noticed the belt must have exited through the passenger side wheel well busting through the shroud. That is when I noticed oil covering the wheel well inside the engine bay coming from a series of hoses that originated from the alternator.
It would appear that oil was leaking from one of the 2 hoses after what looks to be valve of some sort coming from the vacuum line.
when I get time this weekend, I will replace these hoses, along with the putting on a new power steering belt and possibly idler pulley bearings.
I guess I am looking for input on the vacuum system and whether oil should be in those hoses past the pump, if the line failing could have anything to do with the power steering belt failing, and (if oil shouldn’t be in those lines past the vacuum pump) would I need to replace/clean out the lines and would that mean that the vacuum pump failed and needs to be replaced/rebuilt?
