Just bought a 86 troopy for my better half and after taking it for a short run (about 50 kms) it blew a heater hose and after letting it cool found oil in the radiator.
After assuming it was the head gasket I stripped the top half of the motor but the head gasket was still intact only some minor cracks under the pre combustion chambers.
Could the oil cooler element have a fault in it letting oil into the cooling system?

Yes, it happened to mine. Oil was being pushed into the cooling system through a fault in the oilcooler also the o rings could let go and if sobthe problem is a lot cheaper to fix. I put a donor oil cooler in and flushed the cooling system and then pressure tested. Held pressure nicely whereas before water would make it's way into the oil pan. Post fix....No more water in the oil or oil in the water.
