Hey guys , I made my exhaust system myself a few months ago and I was in a hurry / budjet for some reason ... I got a 2019 silverado muffler for free so I used it with a little Stainless resonator I had laying around.

Its pretty quiet ... but the muffler can is too big and at highway speed (2200rpm or so) there is a very annoying drone.

exhaut hagner can be the cause too because I dont have the oem one (I used a universal metal strap with a little rubber) ....

I know they are noisy engines but I want to cut as much sound as possible , Any recomendations for a good muffler ? Because next step Is going to be Dynamat :(

an OEM muffler from another truck is going to be the quietest one you can get. Make sure nothing is rubbing and the hangers are working nicely. larger pipes are louder.

I bought everything to start a new exhaust system , walker heavy duty muffler specific for Diesel engines and I will add a second resonator in the tailpipe. Everything in 2.5in with a more efficient hanger.

Will post pics and updates :)

That is interesting , I guess the size of the exhaust pipe with size of muff makes a difference. I put headers/extractors on my 2h and had some custom 2.5inch exhaust pipes made, quite cheap. There is a mob who sells ready made stainless 2.5 inch pipes to fit the extractors, options are straight through, no muff, or with muff.
Some like the noise. my pipe man said with straight through, the drone noise would drive you nuts on the freeway. He put in a small muff, oval shaped, maybe 1.5 ft x 1ft x 8inch or so, maybe smaller. Smaller than the oem one. Maybe a 2 x hotdog size.
It's a little noisy roar going uphill over 2200rpm in 3rd, but I like the sound, not too noisy on the freeway. I reckon mud tyres would be noisier. My wife reckons she can hear me coming home from down the road.

But they are clacky engines generally, a happy tractor note. I don't have any sound deadener or rubber matts on the floor so I hear and smell everything. It's easy to clean, can hose it out and water does not sit and rust that way. I cover the noise with loud tunes and extra oil, temp and voltage gauges, stable numbers, all good.

It was hilarious noisy driving to the pipe shop without any pipes and just the extractors! turned a lot of heads 😁

Yeah the tractor note ahah

Im on the same setup ... no dynamat or rubber mats either ...

Finished my exhaust this monday, not unhappy but I was expecting it even less noisy. Still its a lot better .... Wanted to take pictures but my phone was dead so all I got is the finished product in a discutable photo quality.

welds are ugly ... but they hold and they are tight :p
