So I can get a freeze plug kit for the 2 h short block core, but I cannot find anywhere which mentions the 36mm plugs with holes beneath the the oil cooler. Mine need replacing. Can I use some stainless 36mm plugs and cut the 12mm holes into them?

Have you thought about just getting the correct plugs from Toyota?

well, if you look at the epc it is quite a rabbit warren of plugs, the image is usually depicted from the valve lifter side. The toyota plug which leads from coolant to the oil cooler plate is very hard to find on the epc. It is 36mm in od with a 12mm hole to let the coolant through. Sorry for asking, just hoping someone else had been here. You can get core freeze plug kits but the plugs with holes are not included..
