My alternator is not putting out and power. I was going to have it rebuilt, but I have had a few people tell me that it would be worth it to buy an electric vacuum pump and replace the old alternator with a GM or similar single line alternator.
Has anyone done this? If so, got any specs?
If not, anybody see any problems with this?

Thanks,
French

I used this on my BJ60: High End AC Drive Systems and Power Electronics for Electric Vehicles
I had the opposite problem, the vacuum pump was giving up the ghost, I figured I'd swap an electric vacuum pump in and then swap the alternator up to a high output one wire. The 3B gave up the ghost first. Pump worked great, the model I used: 70/6E2. Wired it straight to the ignition via a relay and fuse, built a simple manifold to feed all the vacuum ports, i.e. brakes, transfer case. Sorry, no pics truck has been parted out. I'm keeping the pump for a 12H-T swap into an FJ62.
