left power wire off battery when changing alternator and truck started first time but no volts coming from alternator, 11-12 volts. then tried to start again to test and the truck didn't want to start. had a look and put the wire back on and the truck starts but now but no voltage still. power to the battery to the alternator connects fine and three wires plug in are fine. alternator was working when we pull it out, but is not charging at all.

we know we blown something, checked all the fuse and they are fine.

can someone point us in the right direct to what is blown?

24 volt? If so there are a couple fusable links on the right hand high side battery.

you most likely blew your ''charge light relay''.
It's in the passenger cowl(Right hand side).
Mr Toyoda can still supply a new one,i ordered a new one only weeks ago.

Good luck

Thanks,
checked that but i had different unit called "Temp Compensated Adjustable" that has a blown fuse. when i replace it, the alternator worked but this was the original one.

I am currently putting in a 80Amp alternator for OEM and for some reason it does not charge. the original one does but the new one does not. I asked a mate and he said that the Temp Compensated Adjustable could be the reason. also the three wires from the alternator to the charge light and voltage gauge are different on the new alternator but i don't think this would cause the problem (let me know if i am wrong).

so i think the new alternator has it own voltage regulator. does anyone have any hints on to why the new alternator is not working.

The original is back on the 4x4 and working fine.

what does this ''temp compensate adjustable'' do?
Is it OEM?
Pictures???

i am unsure what the temp compensated adjustable does but i am assuming that it regulates the voltage.

Are you sure that you didn't take the wire off while alternator was charging heavy??? This can cause a voltage spike and bye bye voltage regulator.

Temparature compensators lowers charging voltage as temparature increases in order to avoid overcharging / boiling of the battery. That's what they usually do. I'm not sure if this one is the same.

That box is a voltage regular it is only needed if u r using an external reg alternater if u ha e a internal reg alternater u will need to bypass that box or it won't charge

hi there, i think i may have a simler problem. my alternater was playing up, so i replaced it. i forgot to disconect the batery though and think i may have shorted the system. now my 83 2h starts but dies seconds after and all my guages fuel, oil ect and taco dont work.dose anyone have and advice for me
