Hey guys,

A while ago I ask you about my FJ60 regarding the engine running like spit and the bucking in first and second. At this point I'm sure the biggest problem is the clutch but I'm more interested in putting a 3fe in my '60.

My plan is to find a doner FJ62 with the 3fe,harness and computer. I want to take all that and throw it in the '60.

I'm also playing with the idea of using the auto tranny. If I can find the parts I need, I'm probably going to rebuild the motor and tranny. I know some of you guys think automatic is girly...I agree but my wife needs to use it too and she's a bit rusty on standard shift vehicles.

Or...Can I just take an intake from a 3fe including throtle body and put it on a 2f?

3fe will not fit on the 2F

The 3fe head will fit tho...

so I can take the head from a 3fe and put it on the 2f...then I can use the 3fe intake and EFI...right?

Do I still need to change out the harness?

I have a stupid question, Does an FJ60 have a computer? If it does, where can I find it on the vehicle and does it need to be replaced by an FJ62 computer?

Or should I leave it carburated and hope for the best.

Or simply fix the 2F.

Or just buy a good FJ62.

You can combine parts from 60's and 62's into whatever you want, but it will be a bunch of work. To use the fuel injection of the 62 in a 60 the 3FE head will need to be used along with the wiring harness, computer, etc. Plus you'll have to swap in or rig up an electic fuel pump.

An easier route would be to find a decent FJ62 and stick the 2F block under the
3FE head, especially if you're wanting fuel injection and a slush box but with the longer stroke of the 2F.

A little searching will turn up information with more specifics.

When I start up my FJ60 it warms up and runs OK...It seems to have good power it's just that 3 different mechanics have checked it out and they don't seem to have a clue. It seems only those who have worked on these trucks alot or specialists can figure out what may be wrong. I think for a 20+ year old truck with 120 thousand miles it runs pretty good. I think it needs a new clutch and rear main seal. But since I'm not an expert...I'm not too sure

When I drive it this is what happens...as I engage the clutch in first, the engine comes to an almost stall. The clutch catches real high(the pedal is all the way up) as I give it gas(on an incline)the truck bucks...but this is where I'm not sure what the problem really is. If I rev it high in first, i'm at about 2,500 RPM and the truck is moving but not like it should in such a high gear. In second it's the same thing, I'm moving but not as quickly as it probably should. Are these trucks supposed to be underpowered? The motor seems to have good torque but the torque seems to be wasted. Now I know it's not a race car but this truck should move a little better than it does...at least it feels like it wants to. Is it normal for the truck to buck when it needs a new clutch?

It's very wet under the transmission and oil pan...that tells me that something is leaking:) I'm still not sure if my clutch cylinder leaks because it was empty and I filled it up and the fluid appears to still be there.
My instincts tell me that oil from the rear main seal or the transfer case is making the clutch slip. Does this make sense?

Put the entire 3FE and auto tranny out of a donor rust-bucket FJ62 into your FJ60. Just about every FJ62 owner on here wants round headlights anyway! :flipoff2:

It sounds to me like the rear main engine seal is leaking. If it leaks long enough and/or puts enough oil out, it drips onto the clutch. This is bad. The clutch will slip and make the truck not move well. You will likely need to do a clutch job (along with rear main seal).

This was my first thought. It sounds like you want a 62, not a 60. Unless the 60 is exceptionally solid just send it on its way and find a decent FJ62. You are talking about a huge amount of work and in the end it isn't going to add any value to the vehicle.

Take it from me, if you are wanting your wife to like driving the vehicle just get the 62 and be done with it. Oh yeah, they all feel underpowered because they are underpowered. Yours is probably running fine other than the clutch.
