Hey guys... Anyone know of a quality mechanic with 2F knowledge in Cleveland? I have a few things I wanna do that are a bit out of my skill set comfort zone. Specifically, I want to replace the exhaust manifold gasket, EGR pipe gasket, and downpipe gasket. I also have a leaky clutch slave cylinder to replace. Much of this I can muddle through, but the manifold gasket Felpro job is daunting for my noobyosity level... Lots to come off to get to that puppy...

Thanks everyone.

Jim - Carb's next - you ready for it or do you want to wait to a slower time?

Jeff,
I do not know anyone that can work on it up here, The GURU is down in lancaster, I will be heading down there this saturday if it will help.
If you want to give it a whirl I will be in town for the weekend of the 13th and then back again the weekend of the 3rd.

If you havent chickened out yet I will be in town next weekend and the weekend after sans the wife. We could play at my house the weekend of the 17th, Tisa is going to the Galapagos Islands with her father.
Dave

Galapagos? Wouldn't she rather be in Cleveland?

Heck no I ain't chickened out... I have the clutch slave, and replaced all the vac hoses, but have not gotten the gaskets for the EGR and manifold. Is that a Cruiser dan type of purchase or are Felpros available elsewhere?

Other plans are a lighting harness and some h4's...

You chicken yet?

I have been all over the forum and everyone's got an idea on best lights, looms, wiring, etc... Zebram did you do this upgrade? If so, what did you do and how do you like it?

I bought an FJ40 with IPF H4 housings and a matching harness. When the 40 was too rusted to drive I pulled the lights and harness for an FJ60. By then the plugs for the lightbulbs were pretty corroded so they got replaced with parts from NAPA. I think I replaced the relays once too. When I sold the FJ60 I pulled the housings and bulbs but left the harness in the truck. When I get another round headlight Cruiser on the road I'll install the housings and make a new harness for them.

In a nutshell I love the IFP housings (but have never used others so can't compare) but the harness was nothing to rave about. I will also add that I believe the harness upgrade is a good thing even with stock sealed beam lamps. Feeding full power to the lights is a good thing; most all cars on the road today feed the lights through a relay and not through the dash switch.

Not sure about the good felpro manifold gasket through toyota. I've gotten the crappy old foil gasket from Toyota, as well as the improved FelPro Graphlex gasket. Seems to still be a crapshoot while they purge old product from the supply chain.

To be sure you're getting the good new Graphlex gasket, go to Advance Autoparts and order a:
Felpro manifold gasket MS22813.

FJ60 uses headlight relays, but they drive the lights through 10 feet of undersize wiring. So adding an underhood relayed harness direct from battery or alternator to lights is a good upgrade.

I installed the whole IPF lights and harness kit in a customer's FJ40 recently. It made a huge difference in lighting output.
That being said, I still like stupid old halogen sealed beams cause they are cheap, sturdy and waterproof.

I am not scared Jeff,
This weekend I will be on a Cub Scout Klondike derby outside of chardon, I will volunteer my garage or If you would prefer to use yours You will have to convince your better half to keep an eye on Aiden. This will give me a good excuse to finally clean up the damn mess that my garage has become.
Dave

How is Sat AM? Jury is out on whether or not the lighting harness will arrive, but there's a manifold gasket and clutch slave and master that would like to be part of the family... What I really want is the EGR gasket - I think the leak is from there and the source of the ever so faint tick as well. Are there local options for the EGR gasket? Man-a-fre cannot seem to figure out if they have any or not.

I would be happy to drive your way - my better half will not be home so we would not have any eyes on Aidan from this end.

call me in the AM,
I am going to be cleaning up my garage in the am either call me on my cell or at the house,

Hey, you left your lithium and some brake fluid in the garage.
Good working with you again.

No worries on the chems... I left with some of your better tricks and tips! When I got home I took apart the rear door on the drivers side and lubed up the rails on the window regulator... Both of them worked fine for about an hour, then back to the feeling of rolling them up through peanut butter. Next step, buy a drivers regulator, install it, then monkey with the old one to see if I can rig something that will help the center pivot unbind. Not likely, but it'll be instructional!

I will order the tie rod ends from C-Dan today for a Feb wrenching bonanza!

Great to see you - kick Chaser for me.

I will kick him on general principals,
It might be worth pulling the refulator out and giving it a thourough doucheing and relube to get some of the old grease and grime out of there.
Just a thought. Now I am thinking I need to order some TRE's from Kurt for the 62.....
