I'm looking for the brass tube that bolts to the 2f engine block for the lower heater hose. My 40 is a 1/76, but per the serial number the engine is a '79 or '80 with DUI distributor (not sure if that's a clearance conflict and why the PO removed it). I believe SOR calls it a U Pipe Heater.

Sidebar question - is the function of this intended to pull heat from the engine and speed up the coolant temp?

Thanks! (no...not my engine unfortunately, but the part is circled)

Thanks. I wondered about that. It's hard to tell without having the part to see how it fits against what's in place. I've seen a pic where someone made a replacement with copper pipe, which might be an option if it benefits the heating system.

I think on some FJ60 2Fs it bolts to the valve cover
From what I've seen that's part of an oil cooler system which mine doesn't have. Or if it used to it's gone now. It tied into the thermostat housing. You can see both in this picture.

I just noticed that some pictures have the lower rail installed with tabs up, and some with tabs down. I wonder if the latter provides enough clearance for the DUI.

I just ran a peice of hose from the firewall ( i think the heater valve) to the water pump eliminating the heater tube you have in your pic. Actually ran it down below the dist cap so it is out of the way.

That's what the PO did with mine as well. It certainly works, I'm just thinking it slows down the temp rise for the heating system by not being able to pick up extra heat from the block. You're in a colder climate than I am so if it's working well in the winter then maybe that's the best option with a DUI conversion.

Found it. Definitely not brass :D. Has some putting on the ends.

$10 plus ride.

You might want to try Toyota to see if they're still NOS, otherwise this one is probably passable.

:D You're right...that's some unusually rusty brass...more classic Toyota yellow-cad must be what I've seen in pictures. Thank you for digging that out. Let me do a little more q&a searching because like @rorkis mentioned I don't think it'll clear the bulkier DUI head. I may post a question on the tech forum too, as I'm still not 100% sure of its reason-for-being. I'll be in touch!
