So after a few more sessions tinkering with this I think I am done. I got partial success I suppose and managed to keep it running but only with the choke on and about half throttle. However, this is good enough for now, as a good disassemble and clean up of everything is on the cards before she goes back on the road, so it will be start from scratch when that happens. I took the thermostat housing off and water pump too and took a peak inside the front end of the block - a heap of rust scale in there so a serious block flush will be required. I will also do a compression test.

In the end I re-did the timing, went through the electrical system from start to finish, new points, new plugs, new leads, tried a couple of different coils. I learnt a heap about the ignition system along the way. (thanks MUD and my 2 manuals - which sometimes told me different things ). I ended up with a good enough reliable spark.

On the fuel side of things I don't think I am going to get much more love out of the carby without a rebuild so that's the end of the road for now. This :banana: mechanic may have gained an extra 1/4:banana:,

Thanks heaps to all who have contributed here, especially Edwjmcgrath. :)

 Lup

If you didn't already know it, Pinhead here has done a great youtube video series on rebuilding this carb.
Given everything you've done, you are definitely up to it.
