2F Block - F Head: Piston clearance and compression

lol

I am positive that someone has done the 3fe performance grind. IT is a mild cam anyway. I would hope the stock computer can deal with it ;)

Those are not stock pistons. Most likely MAF high compression units.
BTW, Dan, those would work great with the 3fe head

Mace just curious but those MAF pistons may not suit a 3FE head looking at the top of them, they are not kidney shaped like the 3FE head, more the late 2F bath tub style. Not saying you can't use them but maybe take a little more time and thought first.

I would be careful about putting them in a 2FE or 3FE compression maybe higher than the 2F head and maybe even impact could occur if there is not enough clearence.

What do you think?

No you are right Matt..

Dan and I talked about this a while ago and I was concerned about the shape of the pistons.

It "looks" like they wold work, but I am not positive any more.

I just called MAF about it, they actually have two different piston types available. A domed and a "flat" high compression version. Both have the raised relief. The gentelman that I spoke to on the phone was unsure if it would work or not tho. Unfortunately the person that would know for sure won't be back till monday.

I'm sure you could machine the top of the MAF piston to suit the 3FE head but this depends on cost against new I guess.

I thought it was supposed to be an F head but it has extra holes (more than the F gasket we got for the old head). It says 60032 which seems like a 2F number and it has a narrow race track shaped top to cylinder.

Where do I look for the extra oil hole and is there one on the top, too?

I have two of the 1.5F heads - both have casting number 60034

not sure of the years but if your 2f has dome pistons the f head will bolt on, if the pistons are in the right position but it will only turn a little and they will hit .you need the later head that goes with the dome pistons .the combustion chamber is shaped different .the head gaskets will inter change but the combustion chambers are shaped a little different also .i dont know when they went to the dome style but i have a 78 2f with them in it good luck

Andrewfarmer: Excuse the neewie question, but I have a 60032 casting number "F" head and am wondering what you mean by 1.5F? (In between model that fits both?)

1.5 "f" head was a one year only F head that had the 2F oiling style..
