I am looking to replace my stock tires with 285/70R17 Goodyear MTR's. Does anyone know if these fit with no lift kit?

Thanks for the help!

Your post made me think of an old thread by a Mud member showing pics of your exact question. Have a look and determine for yourself.

I'm running these tires aswell but my FJ is lifted. Great tires but if you don't plan on doing that much wheelin' I would suggest an All Terrain tire to help minimize your loss of mpg.

Just put BFG All-Terrain 285/70/R17's on my FJ, so far so good.

What Wheels are you using?

I ran those same tires on stock alloys for 22 months. No rubbing or other size related problems.

That's what I wanted to hear... Thanks.

Anyone what to do a trade for my 265/75/16 BFG AT's with about 17500 miles for some 285/75/16 AT or MT's with good tread?

i am looking to get tires for mine and she is only one day old......not thinking anyone wants the stock Bridgestone Dueler HT 265x70x17 though...LOL

I am going with the Nitto Terra Grappler as I had them on my Dodge 2500 and wore outstanding and were great in moderate mud and all other conditions were excellent.

Good luck....

You shouldn't have any problem selling those bridgestones. I sold mine in like a day by setting them in my yard with a sign. I'm running the Dueler revo AT 285/70R17. Not a bad tire, but not very aggressive. You will have minor rub when the wheel is turned and your suspension is compressed. It is very minor rubbing. Probably won't even notice.

Okay here is the definitive answer on 285 tires. YES 285 tires will fit without an issue at all on the FJ Cruiser with NO LIFT or MODIFICATION.

The 295 tires will also fit....but rub ever so slightly in a full turn or when going over rough terrain...not a lot but enough to scuff the inner liner area and make a soft ribbed sound. So with the 295 I will likely get the OME lift in couple months as street driving is not going to be a problem....just when I start going offroad.

I put the Nitto Terra Grapplers on again...and got 295 cuzthey are cheaper than 285 sizes...LOL...must be that they are not as popular. The truck looks AWESOME though so will get some pics of my new FJ after I get the mud and pollen off of her tomorrow....

So there you have it...someone that just did the tire thing no more than three hours ago. :)

I have the Heavy OME coils up front with 285/70R17 and I DO get very slight rubbing when the wheel is turned and the suspension is compressed. It is in no way a problem because it only rubs the plastic, Not the actual frame. You could just cut a small chunk out of the plastic and rubbing will be eliminated. So the definitive answer isn't so definitive!

i put 285's on my stock one, no rubbing. Toyo Open country A/T's, however i went to the toyota dealership to get a oil filter, and they had a FJ with the OME lift and 305's on it and it looked pretty sweet.
So that being said, the OME lift is on order and after i burn those toyo's down, next will be the 305's.

Also those trying to sell the 265's, i put mine on the local C/L and sold them in a day for $300, four only. Kept the spare. ;)

Cheers ...

damngit.....hahahaha....maybe our FJs are hand built and everyone is alike but also unique...hahaha

well the definitive answer for MY FJ is 285 wont rub at all....but the 295 rubs ever so lightly on the plastic nub that sticks out from fender well towards tire. LOL

It is not a lot like a hard whack-whack-whack-whack but a soft sound. I am guessing a few thousand miles and the tires will wear enough to where it wont be noticeable at all.

and now you saying you got the OME HVY lift with 285 and get a rub.....we are back to where we started...LOL

You guys need to make sure your also letting us know what WHEELS you are running as well, not just tire sizes. Also not all tires are created equal either, so brand and type would be helpful as well.

There's a lot more to whether or not you'll rub then just the tire size.
