Hey guys. I am looking at a new set of tires for my 2.5 inch lifted 2007 5speed vvt lx470 with 18 inch rims.

Now I was going to just order 275/70/18 bfg ko2 because Costco sells them for 300 each here.

But I wanted 35 inch tires originally but apparently it’s not so good for our rigs plus a lot of modding and so on.

So I decided to look for some 285/70/18s because why not. Unfortunately it’s not a common tire size. Although Nitto and Toyo who makes Nitto offer this size. Apparently it’s 34 inches tall perfectly between a 33 and a 35.

Any advice would be welcome as I am almost ready to pull the trigger and order these.

Advice on what? Tire size? or tires themselves?

Why not 295/70/18? Those are 34" (34.2 actually) and have fairly decent availability. KO2 in 275/70/18 are $250 each at Discount Tire (LOTS less than Costco). The only tires I'm aware of in 285/70/18 (33.7") are mud terrains and the Ridge Grappler.

The 275/70/18 will have the widest availability which makes it easier to locate tires locally in a pinch (think middle of nowhere overlanding and needing a replacement tire). 295/70/18 have decent availability too. 285/70/18 would be near impossible to find in a pinch in remote areas.

That's actually exactly the size I am planning on buying for my next round of tires. I still have some miles to go unless I just fold and decide to run winter/summer tires. Plan as of right now is to go with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

This is why I ask. I didn’t know if 295 70 18 would fit.

You would need to likely hammer the pinch weld flat and heat/mold the fender liner. That's a very easy job to do though.

I had been wrestling with the idea of 305 65 18 which is a wide tire. Basically 12-12.5 in wide. The 295/70 depending on manufacturer can be up to 3/4 of an inch larger than the 285/70. they are all pretty comparable on price and from what I can see save a little on weight, and fussing with trimming. I just wish more people have had experience with them, I have found no one currently running them on an LX/LC.

I feel as if 285 70 18 is like a new hidden gem special for tires

Size-wise, I think you're right. But, limited availability in the field would keep me from that size. DiscountTire only shows 5 options. 19 options for 295/70/18 and 48 options for 275/70/18. Even though I carry a spare and a complete patch/plug kit, I still stay with sizes that availability in the field wouldn't be a huge issue.

Hear mold ez pz.

This pinch weld I keep hearing everybody talk about I am not sure where it is. Like front tire near cab?

I think I might give them a try. Order up 5 so I don’t get screwed over.

The tire chain near me has them and nobody else. Super hesitant because of scarcity but I think it’s a bad ass size. Also the 295s are 50 dollars more expensive each.

Wow! I can get 295/70/18 Wildpeaks from DiscountTire for $214 each. The cheapest 285/70/18 at DiscountTire is $290 followed by $322, $390 and $403. The 295/70/18 has 7 tires less expensive than the 285/70/18. Of course, I'm looking at DiscountTire only.

Also I’m in Canada. I’m not sure if all my tire options. But I am currently using kal tires as my supplier.

I'm currently running those 34" Nitto Tires and I couldn't be happier. I previously had on 35s for about 10K and I ran into a number of issues with them so I switched to 34s. I've had on 295/70s for a couple of years and I did like that size but these 34s seem to be the sweet spot for me. They fit up in the fender, better gas mileage, turning radius and I feel like a have a bit more control of the LC when pulling my trailer. I know the size is not that common so i have 2 spares, i only carry one and keep the other in the garage.

I have been running this tire for over a year and love the size and tread.

I dropped down from 295/70/18 in a Toyo AT2 to this size.

For me it is a perfect fit.

In this picture I was running slee heavies in the rear. I have changed to 868 since getting the KK.

My truck is heavy.
