I just got my lift on (Ironman 2") and am going to be replacing the tires soon. I have a set of 18" alloy Tundra wheels that I'll be putting on, along with 1 1/4" spacers. Will 285/65/18 contact the fenders on full compression with the spacers? I'd rather run this size than the taller and narrower 275/70/18. Thoughts?

I don't think you need the spacers with that width of tire. Or is it to get the track back to normal width?

It's to make the center caps fit on the Tundra wheels.

gotcha. I think Spressomon runs that size of tire w/ spacers.

Just use your stock center caps. Seems like a silly reason to get wheel spacers just for center caps.

The tire is fine without spacers. I installed 1" front spacers to get the track closer to even and to provide clearance for my remote reservoir lines without adjusting the turnstops. Has worked fine for me so far. When I get the 35s installed I'll put the 1" on the rear and a 1.25" on the front.

I already have the spacers and they are going on the truck. I don't like the look of the original hubcaps on the Tundra wheels. I'm just wondering if anyone has run into clearance issues with tire and fender at full compression with this setup? I'd rather run the 285 instead of the 275. I don't need the extra height and would rather have the added stability of the wider tire.

Anyone confirm this?

Jrod - I dont have a definitive answer for you. But, here is my best guess....

When looking at a BFG AT -
295/75R/16 = 33.2" height
285/65R/18 = 32.7" height

I run the 295's above. I barley rubbed the back of the wheel well at the pinch weld and ever so slightly at the top of the wheel well in full compression. The top was experienced when traveling at high speed in the desert.

The tire you are wanting to run is about 1/2" shorter in height and if you do rub at the back of the wheel well, it will be so slight that all you would need to do is trim the plastic at the weld. Look at the bottom of the wheel well and you will see where I am talking about.

Good luck!

This is about as compressed as a 100's front end can possibly get. 295/75/16 BFG AT's on stock rims with no spacers. Another .5" and a spacer is going to make that gap quite a bit smaller. I think for light trail duty you will be fine, but put it on the rocks and you may have issues.

I have only rubbed mine when downhill, fully compressed and turning the wheel and it ONLY rubs on driver side at the very end of the turn stop...not on passenger. No damage..nothing but a clean spot in there. So not a worry. Does it maybe once or twice on a trail at most....so little I rarely notice.
