I am looking for relays to operate lights, and a starter safety switch on by 24V BJ74

I found this one from Hella

http://hellahd.com/index.php/defaul...ays/work-lamp-category-1/electrics-product-1/

I want to run some lights, and I want to integrate a safety switch for the starter.

I could plug into the brake light switch, and use a relay to switch the starter wire, ie I would have to step on the brake to start the vehicle. Or if someone has a 24v brake light switch, I could put it on the clutch pedal to operate the relay to activate the starter solenoid wire, ie becoming a clutch safety switch.

I don't know a lot about relays, so looking for help if this one from Hella would work. The starter solenoid wire is 10 ga, so 30 amp should do it.

Need some help from more knowledgeable members. Looking for relay help, and if someone has a 24v spare brake light switch they want to part with, I need one

I have used my starter motor to 'drive' my vehicle out of a 'situation' when the engine wasn't running. I'd rather NOT have something that prevents the starter from operating unless my foot was on the brake or clutch pedal...

Anyhow, back to your question. There isn't a 24V switch... A 12V switch will work at 24V (just a matter of derating the current a little, which isn't an issue for this kind of switch). There ARE 12V and 24V relays and that is based on the coil resistance.

cheers,
george.

Good point. I have done the same using the starter. That doesn't happen often, and I can put an override switch in for that

Thanks on the switch. I have a spare brake light switch from a 12V BJ70. I'm going to check it out

I was able to use the BJ70 brake switch. It was 10MM, so I removed the 8MM pedal stop bolt, and drilled and tapped it for 10MM for the switch. Since it will engage the starter at about 1/4 inch of pedal pressure, long before the clutch would disengage, so you could use the starter to move if you had to. But it will be a nice reminder to push in the clutch to start

you're "she's mad" now I'm mad..... at any given moment I'm always driving a variety of vehicles... autos vs. standard, gas vs, diesel etc.....I have NEVER had a problem with starting my BJ74 in stock configuration....Now that you have brought this up it is nearly inevitable that I will jump in the truck and start it in gear without pressing the cluch and lurch into something.....Thanks ALOT!!!!:flipoff2::cheers:
