Found a 24vdc compressor 5 years ago from Surplus Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. They have a website. Cost was $75. Made by Thomas, but not sure of its original application. It has been incredibly reliable and will run all day. Only weaknesses are that it only goes up to 50psi and it has limited CFM.

ARB, Warn, Viair, or two 12V units in series.

It all depends on how large you want to go and how much you want to spend. The Warn is massive, but will (just) run air tools... draws lots of power.

GlennBJ74 has two 12V units wired up in series and it works quite well.

If you have space for another compressor, why not do a Sanden or York endless air. When I was looking into this a while ago I found that i could buy a new 24V 508 Sanden compressor (clutch and pully included) for just over $240 in the US.

The only done side, is everyone will want you to air them up. The up side, is they produce a lot of PSI.

Like Eleblanc says go with 100% duty cycle. ARB's are not. I run a Viair and it won't quit, not as fast as an engine driven unit but works great.

After we got off the Rubicon, two of the three compressors we had overheated from use and shut off. My Viair aired up 3 rigs and a trailer, didn't skip a beat. I would definately buy one again.

There is space under the Alternator, but to install it needs to go in from the front as the chassis is in the way to push it up from underneath. BrianW installed one on his 12h-t when he was rebuilding it, so made all the mountings and installation much easier.

I came across a 24v Clisby for $150 which is a 24v half HP unit and performs excellently in conjuction with a on board air system. These are an Australian brand, very expensive when new, and probably geared to the marine market, but sit under the bonnet of my HJ61 very proudly.
