I need to get new tires on my FJ 60 I am trying to decide between 235 85 or 265 75. I have the Toyota 16 inch non-US spec rims

I have never ran the 235 tall skinny. So I’m looking for some feedback from people who have ran both, or just feedback on the 235’sl. Any difference and ride, drivability, steering, and etc. would be greatly appreciated. Any drawbacks on running the tall skinny ? Not a big difference in weight, I’m only about 4 pounds but every pound helps

I already have a 2 inch OME lift so I’m not concerned about clearance on either. Looking to buy this week. 4WP has them for under $700 installed so I’m looking to pull the trigger this week

Here's some homework

If you're driving mostly on pavement- get the normal 265 tires. If you're looking for an offroad specific tire that's also better in snow, get the skinnys.

My off-roading always entailed driving over soft sandy stuff eventually, either a wash or a beach, so personally I'd go for the tire with the better floatation - the 265s. Also the 265s are more suitable for freeway driving... and we do way too much of that.

Much appreciated. That link and your response answered virtually every question I had

All things being equal, I like the tall skinny. However, what is the width of your rims? They may not both work on your rims, especially if you plan to air down for the trails.

Also, they do make slightly taller tall skinny tires in a 16" if you are interested.

I went with the 265. Majority of my driving is on paved roads

Something else to consider is, if you're out traveling and destroy a tire. You're much more likely to find a 265 in stock at most tire shops then a 235.

I've run 235/85R16 on non-usa 16 inch toyota rims.

I've had this set up for a long time. It fits the truck really well and looks like a tire made for a cruiser, especially with a little lift.

Here's another choice available in a tall skinny. I like the Maxxis Bighorn in the 255/85R16.
