I've been chasing down an oil leak on the 4Runner.
Thought it was the crank pulley seal so I replaced it and put a sleeve on the pulley.
That wasn't it. Checked the valve cover bolts, they were really loose so I tightened them up a bit.
Still leaks, After wiping everything down and letting the engine run it looks like it's coming from
the front of the Valve cover. My question is, right below the front of the valve cover is a half circle
rubber piece, does this come as part of the valve cover kit or is there some other name for it that
I should ask for?

Thanks
Lane

Thanks Mark, I keep seeing a puddle below it near the water pump.
The rubber piece does have a small piece taken out some I'm pretty sure thats
the culprit.

Its been a long time since I had a 22R motor but I think I had problems with a leak coming from the distributer O-ring.

Could be either. I would pull the valve cover and make sure the gasket isnt ripped and is still nice and plyable. Replace if it isnt. Then remove both (front and back) half moons and clean all surfaces. a little RTV between head, and half moon will work wonders, along with some between cover gasket and half moon. I have an extra (I am pretty sure) distributor O ring it might save you from buying a gasket kit, if you need it.

lane i may have some new extra half moon pieces for you if i can find them i will bring them to fg for you

Thanks!

well i only found one but it should do just silicone to new one and the old one in the rear and you should be ok i will throw it in my glove box now just remind me at fg to dig it out for yahh
