I have a1983 mini with a 22r. I have spark and gas but it won't start. It turns over fast (new battery). When I say I have gas, I mean in the tank. I'm spraying starting fluid into the carb. What am I missing? Thanks

Need more info................Could be fuel pump, will it run for a short period of time if you dump a little gas in the carb? If so then the problem is fuel delivery, if not then either you don't have enough spark or your spark is in the wrong spot. With the engine off take of the air cleaner and look into the carb while pumping the throttle. If gas squirts into motor then its your spark, Could be timing, missplaced plug wires, wet cap. lots of stuff, what does your fuel filter look like????
Good luck

I have spark at distirbutor. I have new wires, plugs, cap and rotor. Need to check spark at plugs. I get no fire up even with starting fluid or gas in carb. Cap is dry inside. What next?

My pappy taught me early, the 4 things an engine needs to run,
spark
fuel
compression
correct timing

When did this problem start????? Check for spark at the plugs and reset your timing

Texican, you forgot AIR.

well, my pappy must have been reasoning if we are standing there trying to make it run, air ain't a problem :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Air I believe would deal partly with compression, but mostly with combustion. It ran when I parked it last fall. Could the timing be off if it just sits? I'll check spark at the plugs today. After I plow 8" of snow that is atarting to fall now. I'm wondering about something electrical, other than spark.

It could be the igniter , it will give you a spark if bad but real weak. check the coil also I have spares of both here if ya need em from my many minis . you can check both with a vom look in the book it tells you how to check em. Take off the cap and make sure rotor is spinning when you crank the motor ,put it to tdc and pull the cap make sure its pointing at #1.

Well, maybe so but air has to go in one end and out the other, so a complete exhaust blockage could cause this(although I doubt it) :D I'd say that wolfman is on the right track especially after sitting all winter. Check all the electrical connections in the coil circuit for corrrosion.

BTW standing there never made anything run :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I dare you to stand next to me after I've had my chorizo burrito.....:D

Pull your plugs and read them (wet/dry), then check them for spark....I am leaning towards a tired ignitor on this one too.
